Rolling Back Equity: A Response to Denver Public Schools' Proposed Reinstatement of School Resource Officers

June 11, 2020 was a monumental day for racial justice in Denver. In fact, it may have been the most significant advance in racial equity within the city’s education system in decades. By unanimously voting to remove all school resource officers (SROs) from Denver Public Schools (DPS) and address the many ways in which students are criminalized, the school board took an enormous step in addressing the systemic racism facing BIPOC students. Nevertheless, it took less than three years for DPS to attempt to reverse back this historic racial justice victory.
